Why 90,000?
Tanzania has only 25,000 health workers; according to the World Health Organization, the country needs 115,000 more in order to meet the basic health needs of the population – this leaves an overwhelming deficit of 90,000 health workers.

To put this in more tangible terms: There are 40 million people in Tanzania and only 1,339 doctors. In contrast, there are 65,644 doctors in New York State alone. Unbelievable shortages of doctors – as well as nurses, radiographers and other health workers – results in tremendous loss of life in Africa every day.
