The Touch Foundation
The Who Cares? Campaign builds upon the mission of the Touch Foundation – a nonprofit organization that is addressing the severe shortage of healthcare workers in sub-Saharan Africa, using Tanzania as a base.
We believe it is unacceptable in the 21st century for people to die because they don’t have access to a doctor or a nurse. Yet, in sub-Saharan this happens every day. Working in Tanzania since 2004, the Touch Foundation has trained over 1,500 doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers in a rural region of the country – where the problem is most challenging. The Touch Foundation is also strengthening existing health systems – laying the groundwork for change.
The Touch Foundation’s activities are three-pronged. Specifically, we are:
- Increasing the national health workforce by dramatically expanding and improving the second largest medical school in the country
- Providing expertise to the Tanzanian government to further expand healthcare worker
training nationally
- Addressing critical weaknesses in the wider health system.
The Touch Foundation’s Who Cares? Campaign aims to inspire action among people like you. We provide the tools and knowledge to make your enthusiasm come to life! Help us to create real change and improve the lives of some of the world’s poorest people. To learn more about the broader work of the Touch Foundation, please visit www.touchfoundation.org.
