About the Campaign
In the middle of the night, a pregnant women in rural Tanzania needs to get to a health facility to deliver her child under the care of a skilled birthing attendant. She contemplates how she will find a ride for the five-mile trip to the health clinic. Once she gets to the clinic, will there be a skilled health worker on-call during the night shift? Will there be electricity at the facility? Will the facility be stocked with drugs and supplies?

The health care system often fails to meet the needs of pregnant women and other patients in sub-Saharan Africa because there are not enough trained personnel to help them. People die as a consequence. The mandate of the Touch Foundation’s Who Cares? Campaign is to train 90,000 health workers – doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other professionals – in Tanzania to care for patients in their country and save lives.

Join our worldwide movement to address the shortage of health workers in Africa. Together, we can create change!
